How is your staff qualified?
Director Judy Scriven has 30 years of experience working in both early childhood and elementary education, having served in preschool and childcare as well as Kindergarten and Elementary school settings. She is a certificated elementary school teacher with a specialty in early childhood, holding a B.A. in elementary education with a minor in early childhood education. She also holds a Master's Degree in Education, and is a graduate of the INVEST Leadership Development program.
All staff members receive ongoing training for serving in an early childhood environment. Many bring additional backgrounds of experience that benefit our Center's children even further. All of our staff members participate in at least 12 hours of additional early childhood training each year.
As part of Grace Lutheran Ministries, we place a high priority on the character of each staff member we add to the environment of our center. All staff members are Christians who demonstrate their faith through lifestyle choices and worship practices, and in the way they interact with the children and families of our childcare.
Finally, all staff members have passed background checks and fingerprinting, certified by the state of Washington for serving in a licensed Childcare setting.
How can we be sure this is a high quality center?
We have taken four intentional steps to not only assure our parents of Grace Lutheran Childcare's quality, but also to commit ourselves toward continual improvement.
- We are licensed through the State of Washington, meeting all regulations of a licensed childcare center, which includes regular unscheduled inspections by the state to ensure we continue to meet the bar.
- We participate in Washington's Early Achiever's program, a voluntary program to specifically enhance the quality of childcare across our state. We are proud to share we are a Level 3 Early Achiever's center!
- We are a nationally accredited early childhood center, ensuring the high quality of our program. Earning accreditation required a thorough study of our facility's practices, policies, curriculum, physical set-up, staffing, and leadership, measured against national standards of excellence in early childhood education. We were visited in April of 2019 by a team of early education experts with NLSA (National Lutheran School Accreditation) who validated our high standards and affirmed our plan for continued growth and improvement. We repeated the process at the end of the five-year accreditation term, and were re-accredited in 2024 with the highest NLSA rating for an early childhood program in our four state region (Washington, Oregon, Idaho, and Alaska).
- Visit us. People are regularly shocked at the high quality look and feel of our classrooms, the warmth of our staff members, and the size and quality of our outside play space. We seek to provide the absolute best for our children. When you join us, you become part of the Grace Lutheran family, and just like you, we always seek to provide the best for our kids!
Is your Center only for Christian children?
Our Childcare Center has a mission to share the Good News and love of Jesus with children. We freely share that messsage with everyone and anyone. Children and families of all backgrounds and faiths are welcome in our Center. Our love for God is integrated into everything we do, from weekly Chapel worship to daily Jesus time, prayers and Jesus songs, and learning how to treat others in a loving way because of how much God loves us. If you are comfortable with us sharing what the Bible tells us about God and His love for the world demonstrated through His Son Jesus, then you will find Grace Lutheran Childcare to be a great place for your children (and for your family).
